In yet another alarming incident of rising fraud cases related to match tickets, a woman security guard has been duped of 52,000 in fake IPL 2026 ticket scam. The incident occurred near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
As per the report, the woman works with a private security agency and was on duty inside the stadium on March 28. The security guard asked one bouncer for IPL tickets and was given a phone number along with an assurance to book tickets for herself by calling that number.
Trusting the referral, the woman called the number and paid 3,000 on a payment application as an initial amount for two tickets. Soon after, the alleged seller confirmed that the booking was done and gave her QR codes with her name printed on them, a trick to appear genuine.
Believing the entire process to be legitimate, she booked more tickets from the fraudster.

Multiple Payments, Police start investigation
From March 30th to April 4th, the woman paid the installments in 4,000, 3,000, 7,500, 25,500, and 12,500. The entire amount paid was 52,500 which was transferred in the bank account that both the accused jointly own.
The tickets were never delivered to her and after that the accused never replied back on the calls or messages, that is when the woman realized that she was cheated. The woman immediately lodged a complaint with the police who have now registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify the accused and investigate the account to reach him and the amount transferred.
Police officials suspect cybercriminals are the perpetrators of the fraud. Since the IPL fever is high and the tickets for the 19th season are in great demand (March 28th-May 31st) there has been a rise in such fraud cases.
Officials have asked the general public not to transfer any amount in advance to sellers whom they do not know and advised people to look for reliable websites and official sources for ticket booking. This year the final is also anticipated to be hosted at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium thus creating higher demand for tickets.
