Former Arsenal and Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger has tragically died at the age of 48 after his car was struck by a train. The incident took place on the Salzburg local railway in Nussdorf am Haunsberg, in Austria, according to local police. He won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Gunners in 1998.


Manninger went on to play for the likes of Juventus, Udinese, Torino and Red Bull Salzburg before returning to England with Liverpool in 2016. The Austrian FA and Red Bull Salzburg confirmed his passing on social media, with the club writing: "We mourn our former goalkeeper Alexander Manninger, who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident."
