LPG and crude oil
The government has clarified the situation regarding the availability of LPG and crude oil in the country and said that there is no shortage of any kind. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Petroleum Ministry, said that there are sufficient reserves of crude oil in the country and LPG is being supplied to domestic consumers on priority basis.
According to the government, LPG distribution is completely smooth across the country. There has been no report of shortage at any distributor level. Recently, bookings of about 50 lakh cylinders were recorded in a day, while the delivery rate was about 93%. He said that 98% of the bookings are now happening online, which has made the process fast and transparent. However, due to the summer season, there has been a slight decline in bookings and this figure has now come down to around 45-46 lakh cylinders.
From March 2026 till now, about 4.68 lakh new PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections have been given. Apart from this, 255 LPG distributors violating the rules have been fined, while 55 have been suspended. Since March 23, more than 16.5 lakh small (5 kg) cylinders have also been sold.
On behalf of the Shipping Ministry, Mukesh Mangal said that all the ports of the country are functioning normally and there is no situation of congestion anywhere. This has not affected the supply chain.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, Asim R Mahajan, informed that since February 28, about 10.38 lakh passengers have returned to India. He told that about 100 flights are expected to operate from UAE to India. Regular flights are also continuing from Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait. Qatar's airspace is partially open, with limited flights operating. There are plans to start limited flights from Bahrain soon.
The government says that the situation regarding LPG, crude oil, port operations and international flights is completely under control and the common people will not face any problem.
