Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah has won a significant legal battle with the cheque-bounce case dating back to the 2009 movie London Dreams. The Magistrate Court in Andheri, Metropolitan Area, passed judgment on April 15, 2026, finally quashing the matter, which has been dragging on for 16 years. The ruling signifies the closure of an extended legal battle that was triggered by a payment issue involved with the film’s making.

The story goes back to 2009, when Shah, through his company, provided financial support to make London Dreams. As per the information presented in the court, the sum was handed over as a loan to the film’s producers.

Nonetheless, the cheque given by the producers for repayment was returned by the bank. Consequently, a case under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which regulates cheque dishonour incidents, was lodged. What was just a financial issue gradually evolved into a long legal fight.

The complicated court issue went from one year to another with many hearings and delays. It was turned into a case study showing the worst side of the courts’ slow functioning, resulting in the so-called justice delayed” mantra running.

Yet despite the seemingly slow pace, the judicial authorities stayed on track and decided the matter this year. Finally, in the judgment delivered by the Andheri Magistrate Court, the directors of the movie, namely PJ Singh and Gita Bhalla Singh, were found guilty of cheque dishonour.

Therefore, the court recognized their liability and provided them with legal guidance about subsequent steps to be taken. Presently, they have been given an ultimatum to shell out the sum within three months.

If they neglect doing so, then disobeying the law can result in a prison sentence that can last from a minimum of no time to a maximum of nine months.

Vipul Shah’s Lawyer Calls It Long-Overdue Justice

Upon hearing the last verdict, Shah’s attorney said it was a wrap for the case after years of chasing it. He said Shah had made a financial gesture at that time. But when the cheque bounced, the repayment failed.

He pointed out that eventually, after years of court sessions, the judges decided it was the filmmakers who should be held accountable, and hence they have been found guilty. He went on to say that even though the case dragged on for so long, the result demonstrates that, in the end, justice prevails.
