If you're looking for a summer destination to head to, there's only one place you need to consider this year. Brits often enjoy Spain, Greece or the Canary Islands but Sicily in Italy is a spot that can't be overlooked.
Travel Supermarket has listed Sicily as the best Mediterranean destinations to add to your list. It says: "The largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily reveals one surprise after another as you explore its craggy coastline, hilltop villages and historic cities."
There are 19 countries in the world which don't have any UNESCO World Heritage Site but Sicily has an impressive seven sites. These include Mount Etna, the Aeolian Islands, the ancient city of Syracuse, the Archaeological Area of Agrigento, Villa Romana del Casale, the Arab-Norman Palermo, and the Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, says Passport Symphony.
There's something for everyone, from cliff jumping into sandy coves to learning about the history of the area.
While you're there, you can't miss out on seeing the stunning white peak of Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe.
One person who visited Mount Etna on Tripadvisor said: "Mount Etna is a unique and unmissable experience.
"Spectacular landscapes, powerful nature and constantly changing landscapes make the visit truly exciting.
"The organisation of the excursions is good and allows you to experience the volcano safely, with trained guides.
"Whether it is a walk through the craters or a view from above, Etna leaves you speechless. A fascinating place that absolutely deserves to be seen at least once in a lifetime."
Travel Supermarket adds: "While the eastern side harbours other treasures - Siracusa and its ancient Greek ruins and the baroque splendours of Ragusa, Noto and Modica - head west to the vibrant capital, Palermo, for some of the island's best street food."
If you're hoping to visit the beach while you're there, San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo are the go-to spots.
One person who visited San Vito Lo Capo on Tripadvisor said: "Very long and wide fine sand beach that also runs very gradually into the azure sea. Fantastic but busy, even in September. Definitely a must-do if you are in Sicily."
For a trip with beautiful natural landscapes, beaches, history and warm climates, Sicily is a place you should consider for your next trip.
