New Delhi. A massive blast took place in a firecracker factory located in Kattannarapatti area of Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. So far, 16 people have been reported dead in this incident while 6 people are said to be injured. The number of deaths is also expected to increase. As soon as information about the incident was received, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot. At present, relief and rescue work is going on at a rapid pace at the incident site. On the other hand, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin has taken cognizance of this accident and expressed condolences and has given instructions to the officials regarding relief work.

It is being told that after the explosion, a fire broke out in the factory and within no time it took a huge form. Four other units near the factory also caught fire. The explosion was so powerful that its echo was heard for several kilometers. The glass windows of houses located far away from the factory were shattered. After this incident there was an atmosphere of chaos. There were screams everywhere and people started running here and there to save their lives. After extinguishing the fire, the debris of the factory is being removed so that the trapped people can be taken out. The police have banned common people from going near the incident site. At present, no information has been revealed regarding why this incident happened.

My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. I met Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to immediately reach the spot and expedite and monitor the rescue operations and console the affected families. I have contacted the District Collector and have instructed him to coordinate all necessary assistance.
