New Delhi: A Punjab Kings (PBKS) fan’s hilarious dig at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka has gone viral on social media. The fan took a dig at Goenka for buying Rishabh Pant at the IPL 2025 mega auction, thanking him for not allowing the wicket-keeper batter to join the Punjab Kings. LSG paid a whopping Rs 28 crore to sign Pant in the IPL 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player of all time in IPL history.
The incident took place during Punjab Kings’ clash against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Sunday. Punjab Kings defeated LSG by 54 runs in the game to continue their unbeaten run in the tournament and consolidate their spot at the top of the IPL 2026 points table.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, a Punjab Kings fan, who was present inside the stadium, can be heard thanking Goenka for taking Pant. In the video, the PBKS fan thanks Goenka for bidding Pant, which allowed the Punjab Kings to rope in their current captain, Shreyas Iyer. The fan then hilariously tells Goenka that he will pay him Rs 32 crore, but that he should keep Pant.
“Goenka sahab! Thank you for taking (Rishabh) Pant. Paaji many, many thanks! Shukar hai captain saadi Punjab team vich nahi aaya. Paaji, we will give you 32 crore, don’t release Pant, keep him with you,” the fan was heard telling Goenka in Punjabi.

For context, Pant and Iyer both found new teams at the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively. They were the most sought-after players ahead of the auction and were expected to fetch the biggest bids. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals had the biggest purses in the auction and were expected to battle for the duo.
As it turned out, Iyer was sold to the Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore after they beat DC to his signing. DC then joined the race for Pant, but were eventually outbid by LSG, who paid Rs 27 crore to sign the Indian wicket-keeper batter. Pant and Iyer became the top two most expensive signings in IPL history in the 2025 mega auction.
After getting roped in by LSG, Pant had also taken a cheeky dig at PBKS, stating that he was relieved that he was not signed by Punjab Kings in the auction. “Mera ek his tension tha, Punjab,” Pant said in an interview alongside LSG owner Goenka, hinting that he didn’t want to join the franchise.
“Ek hi dar tha, wo tha Punjab”
Now Punjab Kings is number two at the points table, and Rishabh Pant struggling to score runs in the IPL. Karma is 🙏pic.twitter.com/BptJ8fNKN7 https://t.co/OAevy3T0gd

Pant’s comments have not aged well, as he has endured a difficult captaincy tenure at LSG, while Iyer has shone as a leader at Punjab Kings. Iyer guided Punjab Kings to their first final since 2014 last season, and the franchise are currently sitting at the top of the table in IPL 2026. Punjab Kings are also the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far.
Pant, on the other hand, endured a dismal season for the Lucknow Super Giants last season, managing only 269 runs in 14 matches. While Pant has managed to get back among the runs, LSG’s struggles have continued this seaosn. Pant & Co. are currently languishing at the eighth spot on the IPL 2026 points table with just 4 points after six matches so far this season.
