Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandes has been a topic of discussion for a long time in the Rs 200 crore money laundering case of Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also named him as a co-accused. Recently it was revealed that Jacqueline wants to become a government witness in this case.
On April 17, her lawyer filed a petition in Patiala House Court, Delhi, in which he informed that Jacqueline wishes to become a government witness. After this the court issued notice to ED. The case was heard today, April 20.
During the hearing, the ED has sought time to respond to Jacqueline’s plea, in which she has sought permission to turn approver in the money laundering case involving Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Now the next hearing of this case will be on May 8. It will be interesting to see if Jacqueline gets permission to become a government witness.
Sukesh Chandrashekhar and his wife Leena Paulose were arrested by Delhi Police along with other accused in a case to money laundering. Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) has also been invoked in this case. Sukesh and his wife are accused of using hawala in connivance with other accused and forming shell companies to launder the money earned from crime.
Sukesh Chandrashekhar had given many expensive gifts to Jacqueline, due to which she came under the radar of ED and was made a co-accused. ED has already called him for questioning several times. Now Jacqueline has decided to become a government witness. If ED accepts his petition, it may bring him relief.
