digital desk- The call for a new chapter to be written in the politics of Bihar has intensified. Nishant Kumar has now entered the field of politics without taking any formal post and his style clearly indicates that he is not only out to take over the legacy but also to recreate it on the ground. JDU chief Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant will embark on a Bihar tour from May 3, starting from West Champaran. This is not just a journey, but a strategy to understand the society before power and to build the organization at the grassroots level, just like Nitish Kumar had once adopted. The only difference is that this is the phase of creating the identity of the ‘successor’.
Nishant Kumar had the opportunity to reach the top echelons of power directly, so much so that discussions were also in full swing to make him Deputy CM. But he clearly indicated that he would choose the longer route rather than the shortcut. Their focus is first the organization, then the position. This is being considered a well-thought-out strategy in political circles. JDU is currently in the role of ‘younger brother’ in power in Bihar, where Samrat Chaudhary is the Chief Minister. In such a situation, this march of Nishant is being seen as an attempt to infuse new energy within the party and unite the workers.
Champaran is not just a geographical beginning, but a symbol. Starting the journey from the land of Champaran Satyagraha gives a direct message to go among the people and understand their problems and do politics on that basis. Nitish Kumar also started many of his important trips from here and set the agenda of the state’s politics. Now Nishant is seen carrying forward the same tradition. This step brings double benefit for them, on one hand strengthening the traditional vote base and on the other hand creating a distinct identity for themselves.
Nishant Kumar has been continuously meeting party leaders and workers for some time. He is gradually strengthening his hold within Janata Dal United. Recently he held a meeting with the district heads and block presidents of Bhagalpur and Purnia divisions and discussed the organization’s expansion and future strategy. National Working President of the party, Sanjay Kumar Jha has also indicated that this yatra is just the beginning and the entire further strategy will be decided at the organizational level.
Nishant Kumar’s entry is taking place at a time when the politics of Bihar is changing rapidly. JDU needs to re-strengthen both its identity and support base. In such a situation, a new face who is seen doing politics of ‘struggle instead of power’ can prove to be a game changer for the party. If Nishant is successful in building trust among the public through his visit, then he will not only become a natural contender to take over the leadership of JDU, but can also create a new axis in the politics of Bihar.
