New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in urgent need of turning around their home woes to breathe some life into what has been a poor Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign.

Sitting ninth in the points table with two wins out of six, LSG have a lot to fix and arrest the slide on home soil and a win against third-placed Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 32 tonight (April 22, Wednesday) might be the perfect way to start the revival.

While most teams build success on home advantage, with crowd support and familiarity, for LSG, playing at the Ekana Cricket Stadium is more of a disadvantage than an advantage.

Good guesswork could point towards their inability to handle the pressure of expectations and familiarise themselves at home. But it is not the whole problem for their home blues. Instead, it is just a small part of a bigger problem.

The Ekana enigma: Unpacking LSG’s home ground struggles

The Lucknow-based side has the worst record at home since the previous edition of the cash-rich league. Rishabh Pant’s men have lost seven out of nine matches at home since IPL 2025, and with just two wins, boast a dismal win percentage of 22.2.

The home woes have continued in the ongoing edition. LSG’s two wins this season have come away from home, while they have lost two out of two at home – vs DC and vs RCB.

A hat-trick of losses at home would damage their reputation in front of the fans even more and dent their playoff hopes.

LSG’s both losses at home came while batting first. The Lucknow batting unit failed to fire on both occasions, scoring just over 140, effectively surrendering the match in the first innings itself.

Batting blues and team composition: LSG’s path to a settled XI

With both wins in IPL 2026 coming while chasing, the toss becomes super important for LSG.

With constant experimentation, the LSG batting unit is yet to figure out its best XI. It’s high time Pant and the LSG team management field a settled XI with clarity and purpose.

Mitchell Marsh has scored back-to-back 40s, but his inability to convert starts has hurt LSG. Skipper Rishabh Pant’s indifferent form has been a cause of concern, so has been Nicholas Pooran’s dismal displays so far, which have further compounded their problems.

LSG’s bowling challenge tonight

To stop the RR batting juggernaut and avoid a Punjab Kings-like mauling, LSG’s bowling line-up must punch way above its weight tonight.

Early breakthroughs will be key for LSG, who come into the match after being ripped apart by the Punjab Kings in their previous encounter.

Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly went berserk to power PBKS to the highest total of the season (254/7) – en route to a dominant 54-run win.

Arya and Connolly pulverised the LSG bowlers with a 182-run stand for the second wicket in just 13.2 overs. Veteran pacers Avesh Khan and Mohammed Shami should take a cue from Prince Yadav, who was a rare bright spot in Mullanpur on Sunday with figures of 2/25. He has been the best bowler for LSG this season with 11 wickets.

With the team reeling at the ninth spot and survival at stake, it’s about time the team management unleashes tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav.

Key for LSG to turn things around will be a collective performance with bat and bowl.
