Children’s Health: The health of children is significantly influenced by their sleep patterns and duration. Insufficient sleep or irregular sleep schedules can adversely affect their growth and development.
Moreover, inadequate sleep can also impact mental health. Sleep plays a crucial role in a child's learning, immunity, confidence, and both mental and physical well-being. Dr. Pawan Mandaviya, a pediatrician, discusses how improper sleep timing can affect children's health. Here, we explore the ideal sleep schedule for children and the recommended hours of sleep they should aim for.
According to Dr. Pawan Mandaviya, the optimal bedtime for children is between 9 PM and 10 PM. This timing coincides with the peak secretion of growth hormone, which is essential for muscle and mental development. Therefore, if your child tends to sleep late and wake up late, it is advisable to adjust this habit.
Research indicates that growth hormone production is maximized when children are in deep sleep. The more profound the sleep, the better the physical and mental development. If a child sleeps late and does not get adequate rest, it can hinder their growth and development, leading to difficulties in learning and concentration. Such children may exhibit irritability throughout the day and show various behavioral changes. Additionally, lack of sleep can weaken their immune system and negatively affect mental health, potentially leading to anxiety and depression. Thus, timely sleep is crucial for children.
Dr. Mandaviya suggests that if a child sleeps between 9 PM and 10 PM, they should wake up around 7 AM. This schedule allows for a restful sleep duration of 8 to 10 hours.
