Stop spending a fortune on supermarket tomatoes and grow them yourself so easily. It's no secret prices have soared massively in recent months, but anyone who has a keen interest in gardening should listen up now.
If you've been growing tomatoes in your soil, you can multiply the crops with one easy task. A content creator who shares gardening hacks with her 46,600 followers claimed you can do just that by taking a part of your tomatoes and planting it in soil.
Sally said in a TikTok video: "Did you know you could get a whole load of free tomato plants off the current one you're growing?
"These side shoots, also known as suckers, grow in-between the main stream and branches of your tomato plants.
"And if you're growing the varieties, it's always best to remove these. However, you don't need to discard them, you can just plant them in a pot of compost and they will then go onto form a whole new tomato plant."
In the clip, she demonstrates how to easily remove this sucker and plant it elsewhere for more growth.
She explained: "Now I've pinched off quite a small one here but you'll see on your plants there are some in different stages. The reason we move these branches is so the energy can be redirected into the fruit growing of the main stem.
"But each of these side shoots can grow into tomatoes themselves. As you can see here, this is one which is quite established. I will say removing them will support them as they grow."
Sally recommends getting a 9-10cm pot, adding in some multi-purpose compost before planting the side shoot into the soil.
Eventually roots will form along the stem where you'll have an extra tomato plant.
She concluded: "They do grow quite quickly."
How to grow tomatoes without seeds:Prepare: Select a ripe tomato and cut 1-2cm thick slices.
Plant: You can plant the slices on top of potting compost in a tray or pot, then cover with a thin layer of soil.
Germinate: Keep the soil moist and place the pot in a sunny, warm spot. Seedlings will emerge in 1-2 weeks.
Transplant: Once seedlings have at least two sets of leaves (about 10cm high), transplant them into individual, larger pots.
Care: Finally, bury the stem during transplanting, as it will develop into more roots, strengthening the plant.
