Bengaluru: Actor and social activist Chetan Ahimsa has come under criticism after raising questions about the land allotted for the memorial of veteran actor Dr Rajkumar. His remarks have triggered strong reactions from fans, pro-Kannada groups and members of the film industry.

In a social media post on Friday, Chetan said that while Dr Rajkumar is respected as a great artist, the decision to allot 2.5 acres of land in central Bengaluru in 2006 for a “memorial complex” should be questioned. He stated that land is an important issue in modern India and should be allocated keeping public use and future needs in mind.

The post led to widespread criticism, with many fans expressing anger. A complaint has also been filed against the actor. Members of a Rajkumar fans’ group lodged a complaint at Basaveshwaranagar Police Station.

As the controversy grew, Chetan issued a clarification to media outlets. He said his comments were not against Dr Rajkumar and added that he has watched the actor’s films and respects his contribution to cinema.

He stated that his question was about the government allotting land and not about the actor personally. He also mentioned that several other personalities have contributed to the film industry but have not received similar land allotments.
