KFC has announced a major change to one of its restaurants. The fast food chicken giant has been granted a licence to serve food at one of its restaurants all night until 5am.

KFC fans hoping for a late-night or early-morning bite will now be able to visit the drive-through on Broomfield Road in Chelmsford, after the city council said it was a "good neighbour". It previously operated between 6am and 12.30am.

Locals had said the new rule at the fast food chain would disturb their sleep and lead to anti-social behaviour, reports Essex Live.

But KFC's Michael Phipps said anyone being noisy would be told to move on during a Chelmsford City Council licensing committee meeting on Monday.

He said: "Where there are issues, we are entirely committed to ensuring they are resolved as quickly and as smoothly as possible."

A licensing committee spokesperson said it expected any customers who caused "unacceptable noise or other disturbance" to be moved on.

They said: "The committee expects the applicant to abide by the commitment it gave in the course of its submissions to operate as a good neighbour and to take any complaints of noise or other public nuisance seriously."

KFC withdrew its request of "playing recorded music" during the new opening hours.
