New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) created history by registering the highest-ever successful run chase in T20 cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 25.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side chased down the 265-run target with seven balls remaining, bettering their previous record of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024. KL Rahul’s unbeaten 152 runs off 67 balls, and Nitish Rana’s 91 in 44 deliveries helped DC to post 264/2 in 20 overs.

In reply, PBKS got off to a blistering start as Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya forged a 126-run partnership for the opening wicket. They scored 116 runs in the first six overs, which is the highest powerplay score of the ongoing season.

DC then made a comeback in the match as Axar Patel removed Priyansh for a 17-ball 43, and Kuldeep dismissed Prabhsimran for 76. Kuldeep also removed Cooper Connolly as PBKS reached 147/3 in 10 overs. Vipraj Nigam, concussion substitute for Lungi Ngidi, removed Nehal Wadhera for 25 in the 15th over. But the key moment of the match came when Karun Nair dropped a simple catch of Shreyas Iyer in the same over.

PBKS needed 62 runs off 30 balls, and Nair dropped Shreyas again in the 16th over at long-on. He forged a 64-run partnership with Shashank Singh and scored an unbeaten 71 runs off 36 balls to take his team over the line.
