Aakash Chopra has issued a direct advisory to Ajinkya Rahane, stating “Ajinkya Rahane is running out of time,” as Kolkata Knight Riders approach a decisive phase in IPL 2026. The comment arrives ahead of their fixture against Lucknow Super Giants, with KKR positioned near the bottom despite securing their first win only recently. Chopra’s assessment places immediate focus on Rahane’s output, highlighting the limited margin available after seven matches.
He added,
“If runs aren't scored here, and there might be fewer chances of him scoring runs here because Mohammad Shami can dismiss him, the pressure on you will increase exponentially. So, Ajinkya, please score the runs here.”

Selection concerns and overseas combination
Chopra proposed structural changes to KKR’s lineup, centring on the inclusion of Matheesha Pathirana following his recovery. He suggested that Tim Seifert could make way, allowing a revised overseas composition of Sunil Narine, Cameron Green, Rovman Powell and Pathirana. Chopra said,
“Pathirana should be available. If Pathirana is there, Tim Seifert will have to go out. I would say make Cameron Green open, or put him at No. 3, and make Sunil Narine open."
The recommendation indicates a shift towards reinforcing bowling depth while maintaining flexibility in the batting order. The proposed adjustment also reflects concerns around balance, particularly with KKR’s bowling unit lacking consistency in earlier matches. The inclusion of Pathirana is viewed as a direct response to that gap.

LSG’s batting order under scrutiny
Chopra extended his analysis to Lucknow Super Giants, urging clarity in their batting structure. “LSG, get your batting order right,” he said, suggesting that Matthew Breetzke be considered as an opening option instead of Ayush Badoni if Aiden Markram is not utilised at the top.
He outlined a sequence placing Rishabh Pant at No. 3, followed by Markram, Badoni and Nicholas Pooran. Chopra also questioned LSG’s occasional use of only three overseas players, stating,
“There is no logic in playing with three overseas players.”
With both teams addressing structural concerns, the contest reflects a phase where tactical decisions carry increased weight alongside individual performances.
