Dehradun: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shri Sanjay Malhotra was recently seen in a different style in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. He visited a special financial literacy camp organized for Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Bhopalpani, Badasi and Soda Sarauli Gram Panchayats. In this program organized by the Center for Financial Literacy (CFL) of CRISIL Foundation, Sahaspur, the Governor discussed the problems to land and their solutions.
During the camp, Governor Sanjay Malhotra described financial literacy as the biggest need of today’s times. He said that to empower the citizens, it is important for them to have knowledge of proper management of money. The Governor encouraged the villagers to take maximum advantage of the various pension and insurance social schemes of the Government of India. He explained that financial awareness is the only path to long-term stability and prosperity.
The RBI Governor gave clear instructions to the CFL officials to make more efforts to reach out to those sections of the society who are still away from banking facilities. He especially emphasized on educating people from underprivileged areas so that every citizen can be a part of financial inclusion. He appealed to the people who came to the camp to share what they learned from here with their family, friends and neighbours.
The special feature of this camp was that the Governor interacted directly with the women of Self Help Groups (SHGs). An exhibition of products made by women was also organized, in which the Governor showed great interest and highly appreciated their skills. For banking facilities, Business Correspondents (BC) were present at the camp site itself, providing basic services. Apart from this, counters were also set up to exchange old notes and coins and a mobile ATM van was also stationed for the convenience of the people.
On this important occasion, Regional Director of RBI Dehradun Mr. Arvind Kumar, senior officials of Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India and Uttarakhand Gramin Bank along with Block Development Officers were also present.
