Business Desk – 8th Pay Commission Update: There is a very good news for more than 4.5 million central government employees and 6 million pensioners of the country. The 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC) has started the preliminary work to prepare its recommendations. The Commission is currently visiting different states to hold direct meetings with employee unions and organizations with the aim of discussing their demands and proposals to wage hike.

Starting from Uttarakhand; Now Delhi’s turn

The 8th Pay Commission held its first face-to-face meeting with the employee organizations of Uttarakhand. Completed on Friday, April 24th. Big meetings of the Commission are going to be held in Delhi between 28th April and 30th April. In May, the Commission team will visit Pune and other parts of Maharashtra to meet local organizations there and know their opinions.

Demand to increase fitment factor to 3.83

The drafting committee of the Joint Forum of Employees Organizations (NC-JCM) has submitted its memorandum. The most important demand mentioned in this document is to increase the ‘fitment factor’ to 3.833. If this demand is accepted, the basic salary of the employees will increase significantly. Employees are expecting major changes in minimum basic salary, annual salary hike and various allowances.

Unions have submitted several technical proposals to the Pay Commission for changes.

  • Family unit of 5 members: Currently, the allowances are decided on the basis that a family has three units, but the unions have proposed increasing it to five units.

  • New DA Formula: It has been proposed to calculate Dearness Allowance (DA) on the basis of 12 month average.

  • Merger of pay scales: To eliminate discrepancies and inequities, suggestions have also been made to merge some small pay scales.

Pay attention to these allowances also

The Pay Commission is conducting a complete review which is not limited to just the basic pay. It is also examining the Transport Allowance (TA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other terms and conditions of service. Employee organizations say that given the current inflation levels, a “balanced and implementable” solution is needed.

When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?

The Central Government had constituted this commission in January 2025. The commission has been given 18 months to submit its report. The deadline for submitting online feedback for Delhi based organizations will remain open till April 30. After this, the committee will submit its proposals to the Central Government. Then these proposals will be reviewed, after which the final decision regarding fitment factor will be taken.
