British holidaymakers could soon be discovering a fresh Mediterranean destination following a "major" announcement from Jet2. The development arrives as the airline has opted against introducing fuel surcharges despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
From summer 2027, Jet2 will commence flights and package holidays to the Greek island of Thassos for the first time. Services will operate through Kavala International Airport, with departures available from three UK airports: Birmingham, Manchester and London Stansted. The carrier has also revealed that by adding Kavala International Airport to its network, it will serve 16 Greek airports - more than any other British airline, it claims.
According to flight schedules, Birmingham Airport will offer weekly Wednesday departures operating from 12 May until 29 September 2027.
Manchester will provide twice-weekly services on Tuesdays and Fridays, while London Stansted will operate weekly Tuesday flights.
This fresh partnership between Jet2 and the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace is designed to enhance tourism to Thassos. Local authorities have characterised the island as amongst Greece's "best kept secrets", celebrated for its stunning beaches and family-friendly charm.
Jet2 has confirmed that customers booking through Jet2holidays will enjoy ATOL-protected packages. The Civil Aviation Authority notes that ATOL protection provides financial security for travellers should their travel company cease trading.
Holiday packages will include return transfers, a 22kg luggage allowance, and a £60 per person deposit, Jet2 has confirmed. The operator has also maintained Which? Recommended Provider status for 11 consecutive years, according to Which?
Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis said: "We are particularly pleased with our cooperation with Jet2, as it represents a significant recognition of the momentum that the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has developed on the international tourism map." He suggested that enhanced air links will "open new pathways" for tourism development.
Jacob Bramley, General Manager at Jet2, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace to promote the stunning island of Thassos, which is our newest destination." He described how the company is "very excited about launching to this fantastic brand-new destination."
The announcement arrives as demand for Greek holidays remains strong amongst British travellers. According to ABTA figures, Greece continues to feature prominently amongst the most popular destinations for UK tourists.
Travel industry analysts suggest that new routes of this nature demonstrate how airlines are expanding their networks beyond conventional resort hotspots. With services scheduled to commence in 2027, British holidaymakers could soon enjoy greater choice when planning their next summer getaway.
