Delhi. Indian weightlifters performed brilliantly and won four gold medals on the second day of the ongoing Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships and the respective Universal Cup (Senior) competitions in Apia, Samoa.


Sunil Singh won the gold medal in the 65 kg men’s category by lifting a total of 271 kg (126 kg in snatch and 145 kg in clean and jerk), while Aisangfa Gogoi won the gold medal in the 58 kg women’s category and Abhinav Gogoi won the gold medal in the 71 kg men’s category.


Asangpha won the gold medal by lifting a total of 185 kg (79 kg in snatch and 106 kg in clean and jerk), while Abhinav won the gold medal by lifting a total of 284 kg (129 kg in snatch and 155 kg in clean and jerk).


At the Universal Cup, Charu Pesi of Arunachal Pradesh won the gold medal in the men’s 65 kg category with a total lift of 289 kg (127 kg in snatch and 162 kg in clean and jerk).


Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) President Sahdev Yadav congratulated the players, coaches and support staff for their excellent performance in the tournament. Yadav said in his congratulatory message, “These achievements reflect the hard work and commitment of our players and support team. India is emerging as a strong contender on the global weightlifting stage.
