Whether you're an experienced traveller, or boarding a flight for the first time in a while, most people will have their go-to habits for making it as comfortable as possible. These could be things like wearing a designated travel outfit, getting a meal or a drink at the airport, or pre-booking your preferred seat on the plane. But when these plans changes or go wrong, it can change up your entire mood for the rest of your travel day.
This was the case for one man named Christian Magnuson, who, despite being an avid flyer who often shares photos of his recent travels on social media, was left baffled whenhis seat was suddenly changed without explanation. Chris showed proof that he'd booked seat 17C on his Scandinavian Airlines flight, saying he had paid extra for a seat at the back of the plane on the flight from Stockholm Arlanda airport to Kalmar, a city in southern Sweden.
But, when it was time to board, Christian found his seat had unexpectely changed to 5D. The confusion continued as he boarded the plane, only to find his orginal seat still lying empty.
However, he continued to make his way back to the plane to his new seat. It was then that something very unexpected happened.
"Then a convoy of cars pulled up and the King of Sweden boarded the airplane and sat in my seat," he revealed in the caption of the post. The video showed King Carl XVI Gustav standing outside on the tarmac as Christian walked down the stairs to get off the plane. A silver car could be seen in the distance, possibly waiting to pick up the monarch from his flight.
Later that day, the official Instagram account of the royal family, 'Kungahuset' showed a photo of the King with his oldest daughter, Crown Princess Victoria, and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, explaining why the King had been travelling.
"Was it fair of them to kick me out of my seat with no compensation? I will say it was cool that he flew on a regular airplane but he took my seat!" Christian added in the caption of the post.
People soon took to the comments section to share their thoughts, as many thought it was great to see the Swedish King fly on a commercial flight. "Happened to me too and I'm just proud to have a monarchy not wasting our resources with a private jet," one person said.
A second user wrote: "I think it's awesome that the King flys commercial. Also, you have a cool story."
Others also saw no reason for Christian to have gotten compensated, as he still had a seat on the flight. "Well, the king is... the king," one person argued.
Someone else added: "Airline employee here, yes its fair since they need sercurity personell onboard. ARN - KLR is also a really short route."
"I would be happy and proud to give him my seat! It's for his safety. He did not decide himself," another user added.
Scandinavian Airlines has been contacted for comment.
