The UK is currently soaking up a stretch of glorious sunshine, with late April treating many to clear skies and warm weather. While some across the UK will continue to enjoy bright weather with 24C forecast, others may need to keep their umbrellas handy instead of their sunglasses.

From tomorrow, April 30, conditions are forecast to become more unsettled. The Met Office forecasts that rain and showers are expected to spread from the south and west, with the potential for some heavy and thundery bursts. However, in the southern and central parts of England, where the sun will continue to shine, it will remain warm and humid.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Tom Crabtree said: "By Friday, conditions are expected to become more unsettled, with rain and showers spreading in from the southwest, some of which could be heavy and possibly thundery.

"Ahead of this, it will feel warm and humid in parts of England on Friday, with temperatures potentially reaching 24°C in central and southern areas. Into the Bank Holiday weekend, the weather looks more changeable, with showers at times - particularly in the north - but also some sunnier intervals. Details will become clearer closer to the weekend, so do keep up to date with the latest Met Office forecast."

Met Office weather maps show that at 4pm on Friday May 1 large swathes of Wales will see downpours of rain. Parts of Central Wales look set to receive a battering with 8-16mm of rain forecast per hour.

Meanwhile the worst hit areas in West Wales could see between 6-8mm of rain every hour.

Somerset is also expected to see some rain, though amounts will be much lower, with a maximum of around 1mm likely. Southern Scotland and Northern England will see similar levels of rainfall.

By 9pm the rain will have moved to cover North Wales with up to 16mm of rain likely. The rain will have also moved to cover the Scottish highlands with the worst hit areas likely to see 2mm of rain every hour.

Fast forward to 4pm on Saturday and the rain will have moved to cover South Wales, Gloucestershire, Bristol and Bath as well as the West Midlands.

Oxfordshire and Berkshire could also see rain fall. Aberdeenshire as well as Argyll and Bute will also see large amounts of rain.
