As a part of a campaign to aid her growing popularity, Queen Camilla's fate was once put in the hands of PR experts to improve her image shortly after the tragic death of Princess Diana. This is because Camilla and King Charles's relationship was under constant scrutiny over the years.

It was the job of two PR professionals to bring Camilla out of the shadows and into public acceptance after Diana, Princess of Wales' sad and tragic death in Paris, France, in 1997. Camilla's public image was put in the hands of PR experts Mark Bolland and Peter Brown, who worked to improve her image.

They did this through a carefully planned trip to New York City in 1999, which was, overall, hailed as a success.

US-based PR expert, Peter Brown, previously told The New York Times about the project.

He said: "I did it as a friend. I got involved because I know them very well and they asked me to help. Camilla hadn't been here for many years and she thought she'd like to visit."

"There was a certain amount of concern about how easily it could be achieved, and I said New York's a wonderful place, the people are very open-minded and hospitable.

"The real point was that it could be done easily and without a fuss, and she clearly had a relaxed, wonderful time.''

King Charles and Queen Camilla's current four-day state visit to the US comes as the US approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence from Britain, and is aimed at celebrating the strong relationship between the two countries.

This visit is tied to the 250th anniversary of US independence from the United Kingdom and a partnership of "shared prosperity, security and history," according to the UK Foreign Office.

It will include engagements in Washington, D.C., New York City and Virginia, with each representing an important facet of the longtime bond between the US and the UK.
