Wednesday (April 29) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was no less than a nightmare for Naman Dheer. This young batsman of Mumbai Indians (MI) could score only 22 runs in 17 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). 26-year-old Naman Dheer came to the crease when MI had scored 110 runs in 8.3 overs after winning the toss and batting first at the Wankhede Stadium. From here MI had hopes that Naman would maintain the run pace but he looked stranded.

Prafulla Hinge ended his struggle in the 14th over. After Naman’s dismissal, Ryan Rickleton and captain Hardik Pandya made a stellar partnership of 56 runs to bring MI’s innings on track. Taking the lead from one end, Rickleton played an unbeaten inning of 123 runs with the help of 10 fours and 8 sixes in 55 balls, taking MI to a score of 243/5, which was the third highest score of this team in the IPL.

Naman looked loose in the field

Coming out to defend a big total, MI desperately needed to break SRH’s dangerous opening pair quickly. Trent Boult created a chance on the fifth ball of the first over but Will Jacques, standing at third, could not seize the difficult chance. Head, who was struggling till now in IPL 2026, got a big lease of life. After this, Boult almost hit Head on the very first ball of the next over but this time Naman took the catch at deep backward point. The ball passed between his hands and went for a six.

Adding insult to injury, Head hit two more sixes in this over. Naman again dropped a head catch in the fifth over. This time the bowler was AM Ghazanfar. He had Head trapped on the ball outside the off stump but Naman took the catch at backward point. After the power play was over, Head again shot near Naman and this time he took the catch but he could not maintain his balance and his foot fell on the boundary line. In this way Head got another lease of life.

Head punished MI severely for wasting so many chances and in the huge run chase of 244 runs, his explosive innings of 76 runs in 30 balls turned the match towards SRH. After failing in batting, Naman has come under the target of fans due to poor fielding.
