8th Pay Commission and DA Hike: There is a continuous discussion regarding 8th Pay Commission and DA (Dearness Allowance) Hike for Central Government employees and pensioners. With increasing inflation, the employees’ expectation of increase in salary and allowances also increases. Let us understand in simple language what is the situation at this time.
Pay Commission is a committee constituted by the government. Which recommends changes in the salary, allowances and pension of government employees. Currently 7th Pay Commission is applicable in the country. And no official announcement has been made yet regarding 8th Pay Commission. However, it is expected that the government may take a decision on this in the coming time.
DA i.e. Dearness Allowance is given to the employees to provide relief from rising inflation. It is extended twice a year (January and July). Its purpose is to maintain the purchasing power of the employees.
As per the recent trend, DA is expected to increase by 3% to 4%. If this happens. So there will be a direct increase in the salary of the employees. This increase can be a relief news for lakhs of government employees and pensioners.
Usually a new Pay Commission is implemented every 10 years. The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016, so it is estimated that a decision on the 8th Pay Commission can be taken around 2026. However, there is no official confirmation from the government yet.

If the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, there may be a big change in the basic salary of the employees. Along with this, there may also be an increase in DA, HRA and other allowances. This will further strengthen the financial condition of government employees.
At present only expectations and discussions are going on regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Whereas DA Hike is a regular process which is implemented from time to time. In the coming time, only the government’s decision will decide how much benefit the employees will get.
