The Municipal Corporation (MCG) has planned to install ‘multi-functional smart street lights’ on 10 major roads of the city, which will be equipped with modern features like Wi-Fi and panic buttons.

Infrastructure on global standard

The Municipal Corporation is determined to bring the infrastructure of Gurugram to international standards. On the lines of Delhi’s famous Connaught Place, plans have now been made to modernize the roads of Gurugram. Under this new scheme, the 10 busiest and widest roads of the city have been selected, which will be completely decorated with smart and digital street lights. This project will not only enhance the beauty of the city, but will also become the first district in Haryana where multi-functional poles will be installed.

The biggest feature of these smart poles is their versatility. High-resolution CCTV cameras will be installed on every pole, so that criminals can be monitored 24 hours. Keeping women’s safety in mind, ‘panic buttons’ will also be installed on the poles. In case of any emergency, on pressing the button, the victim will be in direct contact with the police control room. Apart from this, there will also be digital boards on these poles, which will give real-time pollution level (AQI) information and will also provide free Wi-Fi facility to the citizens.

The Municipal Corporation has fixed the responsibilities of various departments to implement this ambitious plan. The engineering wing will look after the selection and construction of roads, while the horticulture wing will develop greenery along these roads. The electricity wing has been entrusted with the task of installing 21 thousand new lights. A total of 100 kilometers of roads are being developed as ‘Model Roads’. Through the speakers installed on these roads, the administration will also be able to make important announcements regarding traffic updates or in case of any emergency.
