Toll Plaza | The long queues and the time wasted at the toll booths on the highways are now going to be a thing of the past because, for the first time in India, a ‘barrier-less’ toll system has been introduced, which will eliminate the need for motorists to stop at toll plazas. This state-of-the-art ‘Multi-Lane Free Flow’ (MLFF) system has been launched at the Choryasi Toll Plaza on NH-48 in Gujarat. This initiative will make travel faster, easier and technology-enabled.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari launched this new system. With this technology, vehicles will not have to stop to pay the toll. The toll will be automatically deducted while the vehicle is running. For this, the modern system of ‘Automatic Number Plate Recognition’ (ANPR) and FASTag is being used. Hence, vehicle identification and toll deduction is fully automatic.

MLFF system will reduce travel time. As there is no need to stop at toll plazas, traffic congestion will be reduced, fuel will be saved and environmental impact will also be reduced. Besides, reducing human intervention in toll management will help increase transparency. This system is considered to be an important step towards India’s digital and modern infrastructure.

Along with this, the toll collection system has also been fully digitized. Now toll plazas can be paid only through digital means like FASTag and UPI. As FASTag is currently used in more than 98 percent of vehicles in the country, it has been possible to implement the system effectively. Toll Plaza

The National Highways Authority of India has directed all banks to verify Vehicle Number (VRN) linked to FASTag, so that the system can function more accurately and smoothly. Overall, ‘barrier-less’ tolling is expected to make highway travel in India faster, safer and more modern.
