New Zealand fast bowler Trent is known as the best powerplay bowler in white ball cricket. Be it ODI International or T20, Bolt would come into the powerplay every time and take wickets and put the opposition team on the backfoot. Due to his swing, he also showed his talent in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Boult has taken 73 wickets during the powerplay in IPL, which is the second most after Bhuvneshwar Kumar (91). However, in the current season, he is yearning for a few wickets in this phase.
Now Bolt is neither able to take wickets in the powerplay nor has he been successful in stopping the runs. In IPL 2026, Bolt has bowled 8 overs in the powerplay, in which he has scored 103 runs. His economy is around 13 and he has no success to his name.
In the 44th match of IPL 2026 on Saturday (May 2), Mumbai Indians (MI) team could score only 159 runs at the loss of 7 wickets against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The Chepauk pitch was helping the bowlers. In such a situation, it was expected that MI could defend this target but CSK put them away from the match by making 62 for the loss of 2 wickets in the powerplay.
Bolt, who came in the first over, gave 7 runs. In the second over, Jasprit Bumrah took the big wicket of Sanju Samson (11). He gave only 6 runs in this over. At the end of 2 overs, CSK’s score was 13/1. MI seemed to be in control of the match but Boult spoiled the entire momentum by conceding 17 runs in the next over. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad hit him for a four on the first ball and then a four and a six on the last two balls and told that Bolt’s edge has now become blunt.
After scoring 62 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the powerplay, CSK chased the target in 18.1 overs. Rituraj played an unbeaten inning of 67 runs in 48 balls. Karthik Sharma supported him well and played an unbeaten inning of 54 runs in 40 balls, giving CSK a big win by 8 wickets. Bolt spent 37 runs in 3.1 overs in this match. Ultimately his hand remained empty.
