Chennai Super Kings triumphed over the Mumbai Indians by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during Match 44 of the 2026 Indian Premier League. 

The Mumbai Indians faced an early setback after choosing to bat first, with Will Jacks getting dismissed by Anshul Kamboj in just the second over. However, Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir steadied the ship with a solid 58-run partnership off 33 balls. Rickelton was eventually out for 37, bringing Suryakumar Yadav to the crease. He made a quick 21 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed by debutant Ramakrishna Ghosh. 

This put the brakes on the Mumbai innings, as Tilak Varma managed only five runs and Hardik Pandya struggled to score 18 off 23 balls. Naman Dhir shone with a well-played 57 off 37 balls, helping the Mumbai Indians finish their innings at 159/7. Anshul Kamboj was the standout bowler, ending with impressive figures of 3/32 in his four overs. 

In their chase, the Chennai Super Kings also stumbled early, with Jasprit Bumrah catching Sanju Samson behind the stumps in the second over. Ruturaj Gaikwad took the fight to the Mumbai bowlers and was soon joined by Urvil Patel, who scored a quick 24 runs off just 12 balls before being dismissed by AM Ghazanfar. This brought Kartik Sharma to the crease, who, alongside Gaikwad, helped stabilize the innings.

The duo put together a fantastic 98-run partnership off 75 balls, guiding the Super Kings to victory with 11 balls remaining. Gaikwad finished strong, remaining unbeaten on 67 off 48 balls, while Kartik celebrated his maiden half-century with an unbeaten 54 off 40 balls after his big-money acquisition in the auction. 

With this win, the Super Kings climbed to sixth place on the points table, boasting four victories. They are now eyeing a late surge for the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians find themselves nearly out of the competition, with only two wins in nine matches, leaving them with just a slim chance to advance further in the tournament.
