The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has ramped up efforts to construct a modern “Greenfield Expressway” connecting Bareilly to Haldwani. Spanning approximately 100 kilometers, this expressway will function not just as a roadway but also as a vital trade corridor linking the two states. Initial land demarcation for the project has commenced, sparking great excitement among local residents and business owners.

This expressway will be constructed on a fresh route, away from the hustle and bustle. The standout aspect of this initiative is its development using “greenfield” technology. Rather than expanding existing, congested roads, it will be built on completely new land and a new path. This expressway will avoid heavily populated and crowded urban areas, traversing open fields and plains. As a result, it will alleviate long traffic jams for commuters, potentially saving around one and a half hours on a 100-kilometre trip.

Direct access to the Bareilly-Moradabad Highway

As per NHAI’s strategy, this new route will also link to the Bareilly-Moradabad Highway. This crucial connection will greatly assist vehicles traveling from Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh, allowing them to head straight to Uttarakhand via this expressway without having to enter Bareilly city. This interconnection will significantly enhance the connectivity between major cities in Uttar Pradesh and the Kumaon region. This project is poised to be a transformative force for the transportation system in the entire area in the future.

Tourism and trade will experience a significant boost

Haldwani is known as the “Gateway to Kumaon,” and the establishment of this expressway will facilitate easier access to stunning tourist spots like Nainital, Bhimtal, and Almora. This will enhance tourism in Uttarakhand and create new opportunities for Bareilly’s timber industry and agricultural products. Additionally, advanced traffic management systems and other amenities will be implemented along the expressway.

With demarcation work now underway, the land acquisition process is expected to begin soon, positioning Bareilly as a major transport hub.
