Foreign Minister of the Republic of Maldives Iruthisham Adam will reach India on Tuesday on a three-day official visit. As per the schedule, his meeting is proposed with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

According to the release issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Adam will be in India from May 12-14. She will reach Indira Gandhi International Airport at 5.20 pm on Tuesday evening.

He will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House at 4 pm on Wednesday. After this, on the same day i.e. 13th May, there will be an important meeting with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at Vanijya Bhavan.

The Foreign Ministry of Maldives has also issued a statement regarding this. According to which, this is his first official visit after assuming office. He was invited to visit India by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had given it. The aim of the visit is to further strengthen bilateral relations.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during the visit, Iruthisham will hold bilateral meetings with Jaishankar, which will provide an opportunity to the ministers to review bilateral and multilateral cooperation and discuss specific issues of mutual interest.

Iruthisham will also be accompanied by Dr. Ibrahim Juhuri, Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, and Aminath Guraisha, Assistant Director, Ministry of External Affairs. Maldives considers India as its closest ally. Both countries are linked by strong cultural, economic and social ties.

After the initial tension in 2024, Maldives has tried its best to ease its relations. President Muizzu’s administration has taken several steps to strengthen bilateral relations with India. Muizzu has been on official visits to India twice, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations in 2025.

Iruthisham, who recently became the Foreign Minister, has long diplomatic experience. Before this, she had been the High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom.
