Tezzbuzz Desk- In the second qualifier of IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans performed brilliantly and got the ticket for the final by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. Captain Shubman Gill’s explosive century shattered Rajasthan’s title dreams and took Gujarat to the final for the third time in five seasons. Now Gujarat will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the title match.
In this match played in New Chandigarh, Rajasthan Royals batted first and scored a strong score of 214 runs. However, the team had a very poor start and two big wickets fell in the initial overs. After this, young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi took the responsibility and batted brilliantly and scored 96 runs. Along with him, Ravindra Jadeja also made useful contributions.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again missed coming very close to a century. He played an excellent inning of 96 runs in 47 balls, but could not reach three figures. In the last overs, Donovan Ferreira batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 38 runs in just 11 balls, due to which Rajasthan was successful in reaching 214 runs.
Chasing the target of 215 runs, Gujarat Titans got a strong start from captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan. Both the batsmen maintained pressure on the Rajasthan bowlers from the beginning. The biggest turning point of the match came when Sai Sudarshan’s easy catch was dropped. At that time he was on only 14 runs. This mistake cost Rajasthan dearly.
After getting a lease of life, Sudarshan and Gill put Gujarat in a completely strong position in the match. There was a brilliant partnership of 167 runs between the two, which almost ended Rajasthan’s hopes of a comeback. Sudarshan scored 58 runs, while Shubman Gill, playing the captaincy innings, scored 104 runs in just 53 balls.
This was Gill’s second century in the playoffs and he proved his class in the big match. By the time he was out, Gujarat was very close to victory. After this, Jos Buttler, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia took the team to the target in 18.4 overs.
This defeat was very disappointing for Rajasthan. Even Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s brilliant innings and big score of 214 runs could not take the team to the final. Gujarat Titans, while playing brilliantly under pressure, once again proved that they are one of the strongest teams in big matches.
