England have named a 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, and among the selected players, one name has generated significant attention. Twenty-two-year-old James Coles has received his maiden call-up to the senior England men's T20I squad and is the only uncapped player included for the series.

The T20I series will begin on July 1 at Chester-le-Street before moving to Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton. Led by Harry Brook, England have opted for a larger squad as they manage player availability following the conclusion of the Test series against New Zealand.

Coles' inclusion comes after a strong run of performances across domestic and representative cricket. England men's senior team selector Marcus North highlighted the all-rounder's recent form while explaining the decision to hand him a place in the squad. In an ECB statement, North said,

“James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place following his performances with the England Lions and in T20 competitions here (in England) and abroad during the past 12 months."

He added,

“We have selected a larger squad to accommodate the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand concludes, which allows us to remain flexible."

Rising Through The County Ranks

Born on April 2, 2004, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Coles has emerged as one of the most promising young cricketers in the English domestic circuit. The Sussex all-rounder is a right-handed middle-order batter who also contributes with left-arm spin.

Despite being only 22, he has already accumulated substantial experience across formats. Coles has played 58 first-class matches, 24 List A games and 71 T20s during his professional career.

His T20 record has been particularly impressive. In 61 innings, he has scored 1,373 runs at a strike rate of 146.37. With the ball, he has claimed 59 wickets in the format, underlining his value as a genuine all-round option.

Franchise Experience And Recent Form

Coles has also gained exposure in franchise cricket. He is part of the Southern Brave setup in The Hundred and has represented Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa's SA20 competition.

His latest call-up has been further strengthened by outstanding red-ball form. Earlier this month, Coles produced one of the finest innings of his career while representing Sussex in a County Championship Division One match against Glamorgan at Hove.

Batting at No. 5, he remained unbeaten on 224, showcasing his ability to play long innings while maintaining control against a quality bowling attack. With strong performances across formats and leagues, Coles now has the opportunity to make his international debut against India and take the next step in his rapidly developing career.
