The unboxing experience of a luxury mango hamper begins before the first bite. Lift the lid and a wave of sweetness escapes. Inside sit mangoes polished to a near-perfect sheen, their skins glowing shades of saffron and gold. Sometimes, the mangoes are nestled in a handcrafted basket with flowers or a personalised note, transforming a seasonal fruit into a luxurious gift. This is what mango season has been looking like in urban India. The fruit that once arrived home by the crate, purchased after spirited bargaining at neighbourhood markets, is now finding a second life as a premium gift. Across cities, carefully curated mango hampers are being exchanged between relatives, friends, clients and corporate partners.

Authentic and memorable sweet alternative
“Our Alphonso mangoes are sourced from responsible farmers in Devgad and Ratnagiri, where the fruit is naturally ripened. Because mango season lasts for only a short time each year, the fruit becomes all the more cherished. When the season arrives, gifting ripe, fragrant mangoes to family and friends is akin to offering goodwill, affection and a taste of summer itself,” shares Pooja Mehrotra, founder of a gifting studio, adding that her largest order was for 40 mango baskets that was distributed among relatives.
Wholesale markets, local carts and organic fruit stores are prepared to create a mango basket for gifting. “Mangoes are deeply associated with Indian summers, family gatherings, and cherished memories. A premium mango hamper transforms a fruit into a thoughtful gifting experience. It offers recipients something authentic and memorable, making it an ideal alternative to conventional sweets, chocolates, or dry fruit boxes,” says Sanjay Yellar, third generation agripreneur.

‘Corporate gifts lead the way’
Vaneet Mongia, a Delhi-based wholesaler notes the demand scale tipping toward businesses. “Families order for weddings, birthdays and personal celebrations like kitty parties for return favours. However, corporations lead the way as businesses love mangoes for corporate gifting , festive hampers, and employee appreciation.”
Karan Narula, who recently started his fruit business in Gurgaon aims to start creating mango hampers for his affluent clientele. “Our plan is to offer hampers in the ₹1,800–2,500 range. This is based on our philosophy that a meaningful mango gift box should contain at least five kg of fruit, with our current average selling price being around ₹300 per kg.”

A healthy gift for the mango season
Acting as a healthy alternative, the mango becomes the reason for gifting, a festive season of its own regard. “Corporate gifting has grown considerably, with businesses looking for meaningful, premium, and health-conscious gifting options for clients, partners, and employees. The gifting trend is increasingly moving toward experiential and natural gifts, making premium mango hampers a popular choice across both segments,” notes Sanjay.
