Actress Sheena Chohan recently moderated two industry discussions focusing on the future of storytelling , cinema and cultural exchange , bringing together filmmakers, actors and festival curators from India and abroad.
One of the sessions explored the growing popularity of micro-dramas and short-form content, examining whether changing viewing habits are reshaping the way stories are told. Speaking during the discussion, Chohan emphasised that while formats may evolve, compelling storytelling, strong characters and emotional authenticity remain at the heart of cinema.
She also led a roundtable on the role of film festivals in celebrating diversity and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. The discussion highlighted the challenges independent films face in securing visibility and distribution, while underscoring the importance of film festivals in introducing audiences to new voices and perspectives.
Reflecting on her own journey, Chohan spoke about beginning her film festival career with a Best Actress nomination at the Shanghai International Film Festival. She also recalled having her films showcased at international festivals in Busan, Dubai and Kolkata, describing such platforms as important spaces for meaningful storytelling.
