The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is now in the very last phase, and the Australia Women’s National Cricket Team is up against the West Indies Women’s National Cricket Team in the first semi-final at the Oval. While Australia were in their run chase , there was a slight worry as star all-rounder Ellyse Perry walked off the field during the second innings.
Perry retired hurt at the close of the seventh over after feeling discomfort in her quad. Cricket Australia hasn’t yet confirmed what exactly the issue is. Even with all that going on, Australia stayed pretty much in charge while chasing a rather modest target of 126 runs. Perry also didn’t bowl at all, she appeared only as a specialist batter.
The problem surfaced on the final delivery of the sixth over. Perry went for a drive, but the timing was off and the ball skidded back down the pitch. It didn’t get to Aaliyah Alleyne , who couldn’t stop it in time. After she finished the shot, the team physio moved on quickly, and within moments it was clear Perry couldn’t carry on with her innings.
She has since been assessed and remains available to come back if needed. But , with Australia comfortably edging toward another ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, the team picked not to take any unnecessary chances. Australia wrapped up an emphatic eight wicket win with seven overs still left , so Perry wasn’t required again during the chase.
Prior to this semi-final , Perry turned in a match winning knock in Australia’s last group-stage game against India. Even though she bowled just a single over and didn’t get a wicket, she still made a massive difference with the bat, and she basically steered the side to a vital win over Harmanpreet Kaur’s team.
The 35 year old struck a terrific 56 off 38 balls , featuring eight boundaries. Australia had actually slipped to 68/3 before Perry and Ashleigh Gardner combined for a key 100 run partnership for the fourth wicket. That stand, completely flipped the contest, and it helped Australia get over the line, before Perry was finally dismissed.
Before the game, West Indies also ran into a bit of an injury bother, Deandra Dottin had to leave the field with a medical problem and then later she was ruled out. Once they won the toss, Australia chose to bowl first, and Hayley Mathews with Qiana Joseph really kept things ticking along , giving the Caribbean a calm sort of start. But captain Mathews did eventually step away after making 30 runs.

After that, wickets came in pretty regularly, still there was that 42 run partnership between Dottin and Jannillea Glasgow which sort of steadied everything and let West Indies get past the 100 mark. They ended their innings on 125 runs from 20 overs , the full amount.
In the chase, Beth Mooney took control almost straight away and turned it into a very tidy mission, hitting a brilliant unbeaten half-century that basically ended any suspense. She stayed not out on 61, while Ashleigh Gardner chipped in with an unbeaten 35 off just 20 balls. Australia then sailed through and booked their spot in another ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, pretty comfortably.
