New Delhi . Indian batsmen have shown excellent performance in the latest ODI rankings of the International Cricket Council (ICC) released after the recent ODI series against England. Captain Shubman Gill has reached the threshold of becoming the number-1 batsman on the basis of his excellent batting. At the same time, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also maintained their place in the top five batsmen, due to which the strength of Indian batting has once again been proved to the world.
In the three-match ODI series against England, Shubman Gill continued his impressive performance and scored 188 runs. Due to this performance, he got a big advantage in the ranking and now he has 801 rating points in his account. He is only one rating point behind the current number-1 batsman Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand. If Gill maintains his current form, he can become the world’s number-1 ODI batsman in the coming rankings.
Indian team’s experienced batsman Virat Kohli is also consistently among the top players. He has 767 rating points in his account and remains at third position. Whereas captain Rohit Sharma remains at fourth position with 758 points. That three Indian batsmen feature in the top five of the world rankings at the same time shows the team’s batting depth and consistency.
England’s star batsman Joe Root has also got a big benefit from his brilliant performance against India. After scoring the highest score of 249 runs in the series, he jumped four places and has now reached eighth position. His teammate Ben Duckett has also shown remarkable improvement, gaining 11 places, while young batsman Jacob Bethel has also managed to climb up the rankings.
This ranking was also positive for Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer. Due to continuous good performance, he improved two places and has now reached 13th position. His batting has strengthened the middle order of Team India in recent times, which has had a direct impact on their international ranking.
However, India has suffered a slight setback in the ranking of bowlers. Star spinner Kuldeep Yadav has dropped out of the top ten bowlers’ list and has reached 11th position. On the other hand, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has retained his first position and still remains the number-1 bowler in ODI cricket.
England’s fast bowler Joffra Archer has also benefited from his recent performance. After taking five wickets in the ODI series against India, he has jumped one place to third position. Due to this, his comeback and impressive bowling has also been recognized at the international level.
The latest ICC ODI rankings indicate that the Indian batting is currently among the strongest units in world cricket. The possibility of Shubman Gill becoming the number-1 batsman, the consistency of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and the progress of Shreyas Iyer are positive signs for Team India. Indian players will have an opportunity to further improve their ranking in the upcoming international matches, while cricket lovers will now keep an eye on when Shubman Gill takes the crown of the world’s number-1 ODI batsman.
