PM Kisan, Maandhan & KCC Schemes: The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is one of the most popular schemes among the country's small and marginal farmers. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide financial support to farmers for sowing operations and daily agricultural needs.
Get full details about the PM Kisan Yojana (which provides ₹6,000 annually), the PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana (which offers a monthly pension of ₹3,000 in old age), and the Kisan Credit Card (which provides low-interest loans of up to ₹5 lakh for agricultural activities).
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana
An amount of ₹6,000 is transferred annually to the bank accounts of eligible farmers. This money is sent directly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, at intervals of four months.
To continue availing the benefits of the scheme, e-KYC, linking the bank account with Aadhaar, and land verification are mandatory.
Institutional landholders, families with an income-tax-paying member, or professionals such as doctors, lawyers, Chartered Accountants (CAs), and engineers are not eligible for this scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana
The Central Government operates the PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana to provide social and economic security to small and marginal farmers after the age of 60. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive a monthly pension of ₹3,000 (i.e., ₹36,000 annually) upon attaining the age of 60. Farmers aged between 18 and 40 years who possess up to 2 hectares of cultivable land are eligible to avail the benefits of this scheme. Depending on their age, farmers are required to make a monthly contribution ranging from ₹55 to ₹200. A key feature is that the government contributes an amount equal to the farmer's contribution into their pension account. In the event of the pensioner's death, their spouse receives 50 percent of the pension amount—i.e., ₹1,500 per month—as a family pension, in accordance with the rules.
Kisan Credit Card
Farming operations require immediate capital for seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation, and labor. The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme has proven highly effective in protecting farmers from the debt traps created by the exorbitant interest rates charged by local moneylenders. Under this scheme, banks determine loan limits by assessing the farmer's land, cropping patterns, and financial requirements. Eligible farmers are provided with a credit facility of up to ₹5 lakh. In addition to crop cultivators, farmers engaged in animal husbandry, dairy, poultry farming, and fisheries can also avail loans at concessional rates under the KCC scheme.
