Officials from the Municipal Corporation and the Health Department have rolled up their sleeves and begun collecting water samples to look for anomalies, if any, in light of the increase of water-borne diseases during the rainy season.
In a meeting held here, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma instructed the Municipal Corporation to make sure that water is chlorinated and to get samples of the water that is delivered to residential areas. However, Dr. Hitinder Kaur, Director of Health and Family Welfare, has instructed the Health Department to collect water samples for analysis. The agency now has a goal of collecting 400 water samples monthly.
More samples should be taken in the event that any water-borne illnesses spread. The samples are going to be tested at the state public health laboratory located in Kharar. The testing will take place in the PAU, and the MC aims to gather around 100 samples daily. According to MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, a list of high-risk regions has been developed, and although samples from other communities will also be gathered, the places on the list will get priority.
