The quake struck at 1 p.m. local time, 13 miles northeast of Barstow in San Bernardino County. Initially recorded as a 5.1 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey, it was later revised to 4.9. Several significant aftershocks followed, measuring 3.5 and 2.7. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Shane Hernandez, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, told KTLA 5 News that officers were assessing critical infrastructure such as bridges and overpasses."This one felt like a little bit of rolling. And then, as the aftershocks came in, it felt a little like it was pushing up towards us … It just seemed like it never stopped," Hernandez told the outlet. Meanwhile, several people took to social media to report shaking."Whoa. That earthquake was long," one person wrote on X.Another wrote, "That earthquake lasted a little too long for my liking."
