Cases of sexual harassment keep coming up every day in the film industry. Often their matters come to the fore. Although many actresses come forward and reveal it themselves. At the same time, some remain silent on this. In such a situation, after the recent report of the Hema Committee on the Malayalam film industry of Kerala, many stars of the Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu film industry have made revelations about sexual harassment. At the same time, stars of the Hindi industry like Swara Bhaskar, Shilpa Shinde and many others have given their opinion on this. Ananya Pandey's name has now been added to this list. Ananya has praised the unity of women in the Malayalam film industry.
During an interview on September 14, Ananya Pandey said, “It is very important for every industry to have a committee like the Hema Committee, where women come together and start something like this. I think doing this has definitely brought some change. As you know and can also see, now people are at least talking about this problem. However, there is still a long way to go. There are still many big battles to be fought.”
Ananya Pandey said that many production houses have started working towards women's safety. She said, "I see that today we have some helpline numbers in our contact list, which ensure the safety of women and I think this is very important. Even our call sheet has helpline numbers, on which you can call and complain. Even if you want to complain anonymously, I don't think this problem is only in the film industry. It is important that we solve it as soon as possible."
Ananya said, "At least stand for something. It is very important. Don't talk about everything, but choose something that you feel strongly about." She added, "Like women's safety is very important to me. I always speak about it and it is also important to do it in the right way. It is not just about speaking. You have to do something. Actions speak louder than words."
What is the Hema Committee report?
A committee was formed in 2017 under the chairmanship of Justice Hema in Kerala to look into the working conditions of women in the Malayalam film industry. Its report had reached the government about five years ago. Even after the report was released, no action was taken on it for a long time. However, after the report was made public on 19 August this year, there was an uproar. After this, many actresses came forward and also filed cases. This report of the Hema Committee talks about the casting couch and sexual harassment of women associated with the industry.
