ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, also known as Krishna Das Prabhu, is a prominent Hindu leader who was arrested in Bangladesh for his alleged involvement in protests against violence towards Hindus. His detention has sparked concerns about the safety of the Hindu minority group in Bangladesh. Das was previously with the ISKCON's Bangladesh chapter, but was expelled in October this year for violating its rules.Das has been an outspoken critic of the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, especially after the ousting of PM Sheikh Hasina in August this year, which led to a surge in right-wing activities and attacks on religious minorities. Das gained the nickname 'Shishu Bokta', or 'child orator', for his early involvement in religious speeches. From 2016 to 2022, he was the Chittagong divisional secretary of ISKCON. He is also a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jot, a body that advocates for the rights of minorities.

The Saffron Flag ControversyDas was charged with sedition for allegedly disrespecting the Bangladeshi flag during a rally in October. He was accused, along with 18 others, of hoisting a saffron flag above Bangladesh's flag in Chittagong on October 25. This led to him being accused of "desecration" and "contempt for the country's sovereignty". The complainant, Md Feroze Khan, alleged that the group was involved in activities aimed at destabilising Bangladesh's government. Arrest At Dhaka AirportDas was arrested on November 25 at Dhaka airport while awaiting a flight to Chittagong. His detention came shortly after he addressed a large rally in Rangpur on November 22, where he condemned attacks on Hindus. The arrest triggered violent protests in Bangladesh, particularly in Chittagong, where communal tensions resulted in the death of one individual after the court denied bail to Das. In the wake of the arrest, there were calls in Bangladesh to ban ISKCON, with many accusing the organisation of being a "fundamentalist" group. Although the Bangladesh Supreme Court dismissed the petition to ban ISKCON's Bangladesh chapter, student groups have continued to push for the ban. Strain In India-Bangladesh TiesDas's arrest has further strained diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh, with New Delhi expressing its concern. ISKCON leaders have raised alarm over violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, sharing disturbing reports of attacks in Chittagong. "Mass killing is going on in Hazari Goli, Chittagong. They are branding every Hindu as 'dalal' of Iskcon and attacking. I am shocked by the videos I am receiving from the worried congregation in Bangladesh," he posted on X.
