A test news release from the United States Department of Defense on Friday (December 12) containing gibberish went viral on social media. Titled 'test,' the release, shared on the website of the DOD, had a series of alphabets, likely typed out randomly by the person testing the feature. "asfasfasdfasfdasdfasfasfasfsadffffffffffffffffffffasdfsfsafsfdwfgasdgbdfbgdsgasdgdsbdb," the said.
The release sparked a flurry of reaction on social media, with the far-right commentators leading the charge. "Yes, this is real," wrote internet personality Nick Sortor. "No wonder we supposedly can’t identify the drones."
"Joe Biden’s Department of Defense just released a statement summing up the entire last 4 years of their administration," another far-right X account, called Liberacrat, said on X. "Needless to say, this is highly embarrassing."
"The Department of Defense needs Hegseth now more than ever," said another user. "WTAF?!"
Trump's Nomination Of Pete Hegseth As DOD Secretary Faces BacklashPete Hegseth, nominated by President-elect Donald Trump for Secretary of Defense, is facing several controversies that may affect his confirmation process. One major issue revolves around allegations regarding his claims of acceptance into West Point. Despite his assertions and an alleged acceptance letter, questions have been raised about whether he was ever actually admitted to the prestigious military academy.Another controversy stems from a 2017 incident involving a reported sexual assault. The matter was resolved through a settlement with the accuser.Additionally, concerns have been raised over Hegseth’s potential classification as an "Insider Threat."
