Recently, a case of non-acceptance of UPI payments by merchants came to light in Indore, which created a stir in the city. Retail textile traders and gold and silver traders had stopped taking UPI payments for more than a week. The reason for this was the cases related to cyber fraud and digital arrest, in which the police and crime branch had seized the accounts related to his shops.
Traders of Indore told that when they take payment from customers through UPI, if the customer's account related to that payment is found to be linked to cyber crime, then the bank and police also seize their accounts. Due to this, the business of traders is affected and they have to face legal problems.
For this reason, about 600 merchants had refused to take UPI payments for six days and had also put up posters outside their shops, in which it was written that they would no longer take payments through UPI. The administration and crime branch intervened to resolve the issue.
Crime Branch's Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya met the merchants and explained to them that they should start taking UPI payments again. He also assured that a solution will be found for the traders whose accounts were seized and those accounts will be reactivated in coordination with the police of other states.
Rajesh Dandotia also said that traders will not be allowed to face any kind of inconvenience and full assistance will be provided in cases related to cyber fraud and digital arrest. After the persuasion of the officials, the merchants agreed and started taking UPI payments again.
Concerns of traders had increased regarding the increasing cases of cyber fraud and digital arrest in Indore. He said that he is a part of the online payment system of the Government of India, but he is facing many problems. The traders said that they are not thieves. They do business, pay taxes and support the lives of many families.
He also said that freezing of accounts by the bank is not a policy, as it has a negative impact on business. He believed that those who are involved in cyber crimes should be caught and not businessmen should be considered thieves.
