Authorities in Sweden have reported that a horrific school shooting has killed around ten individuals and wounded numerous more. The assault happened at an adult education facility in the central Swedish city of Orebro. Police verified that the alleged shooter, who was unknown to them before, is one of the dead.

Five people were admitted to Örebro University Hospital after the incident, according to Reuters. Four patients needed surgery, while one patient had minor injuries, according to a hospital representative. Two of the patients who had surgery are now stable, while one is still in critical condition.

Roberto Eid Forest, the Örebro district police commander, gave an update on the situation during a news conference. Although he acknowledged that perhaps ten individuals had died, he emphasized that the incident’s scope made it impossible to pinpoint the precise number at this time. Officers were still trying to identify the victims, Forest said, adding, “The scope of the incident is so large.”

According to The Guardian, Maria Pegado, a 54-year-old teacher, described the mayhem that ensued when someone stormed into her classroom after lunch and ordered everyone to leave. She hurried her fifteen kids into the corridor and took off running. She realized the seriousness of the situation when she heard two gunshots and saw wounded persons being hauled out as they got closer to the school door.

The motivation for the shooting has not yet been determined by authorities. According to Forest, the suspect is thought to have acted alone and was not on the police’s radar before the crime, and there is presently no known link to terrorism. Although it’s unclear whether the suspect committed suicide or was murdered by police, local media stated that he passed away during the event.
