The celebration of Holi in Braj lasts for about 40 days. The Navami Tithi of Phalgun month will begin on March 7 at 9:18 am and end on March 8 at 8:16 am. In such a situation, Lathmar Holi will be celebrated on 8 March on the day of Udayatithi. This tradition is associated with the love story of Lord Krishna and Radha Rani. According to the belief, Shri Krishna came to Barsana (village of Radha) with his friends (Gopis) and started coloring Radha and his friends. Radha and her friends did not like this mischief, so they ran and beat up Shri Krishna and her friends with sticks. Since then, this unique Holi has been played every year, in which the women of Barsana beat the men of Nandgaon with sticks and men use shield to protect themselves.

In this Holi, the women who are called Huriyarin beat the Hurriyas with sticks and the Huriyarin protects themselves from their sticks by placing them on their heads. On the first day, men of Nandgaon come to Barsana and play Holi in the temple of Radha Rani. After this, the women (gopis) of Barsana take sticks and attack them and protect themselves from the shields. The next day the women of Barsana go to Nandgaon and Holi is played there.
