Season 3 of The Wheel of Time just wrapped, and honestly? It was the show’s best season yet. Critics loved it, fans were into it, and the numbers show it, a whopping 97% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and 82% audience approval. Not bad for a fantasy series that’s been fighting to win people over since day one.

But here’s the thing: as of April 18, 2025Amazon still hasn’t officially said yes to a Season 4. Which is kinda wild, considering how much money and effort they’ve poured into the show, not to mention the major leap forward in quality this season. With all that invested, it’s hard to imagine they’d just call it quits now.

Season 3 mostly adapted “The Shadow Rising,” the fourth book in Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series,  and one of the most beloved in the whole saga. But by jumping ahead (seasons 1 and 2 followed books 1 and 2), the story timeline has gotten a little messy. Some big characters, like Perrin, aren’t even featured in Book 5, but obviously, they can’t just leave him out of a whole season. So the writers are mixing and matching plotlines to keep the story moving and the main cast involved.

That means if we do get a Season 4, it likely won’t follow just one book. Instead, it’ll be a mash-up of multiple novels, and that makes the plot much harder to predict.

Bottom line? Fans want more, the reviews are better than ever, and the show’s finally hitting its stride. Now it’s up to Amazon to spin the wheel again.

The Wheel of Time will cover the biggest part of ‘The Dragon Reborn

At the end of The Wheel of Time Season 3, Rand al’Thor officially became the Car’a’carnor “Chief of Chiefs,” of the Aiel, checking off a major box on his prophecy to-do list. But don’t think the Dragon Reborn is done yet. There’s still one big, glowing, magic-powered item he needs to claim before the final battle: Callandorthe crystal sword.

Callandor isn’t just any weapon, it’s a supercharged Sa'angreala tool that massively amplifies a channeler’s power. Moiraine used a similar item (Sakarnen) to take down Lanfear in the Season 3 finale. But Callandor is specifically tied to Rand’s destiny, and his story can’t move forward without it. The prophecies, known as the Karaethon cyclespell it out pretty clearly: to win the Last Battle, the Dragon Reborn has to claim Callandor.

So, where is it? Hidden in the Stone of Teara fortress built by the Aes Sedai using the One Power, and no one’s been able to pull the sword out. Until Rand.

This mission is the main storyline from Book 3, The Dragon Reborn. Even though the show jumped ahead to adapt Book 4 (The Shadow Rising) in Season 3, it looks like it’ll circle back just for this piece of Book 3, probably early in Season 4. Moiraine even hinted at it when she said they now have an army ready to take Tear.

But don’t expect Rand to hang around Tear for long. After that, Season 4 will likely dive into events from Book 5, The Fires of Heaven, where Rand faces off against new enemies, more Forsaken, and further challenges in Aiel territory. That’s where things get tricky, because mixing book timelines means the show has to shuffle events around carefully without breaking key character arcs.

The big takeaway? Rand’s next big move is getting Callandorand once that’s done, it’s full steam ahead toward the Last Battle, but not without a few twists, turns, and chaos in between.

The Fires of Heaven will be the main focus of The Wheel of Time season 4

After the events of The Shadow Rising, The Wheel of Time Season 4 is likely to dive heavily into The Fires of Heavenwhich is the fifth book in the series. The introduction of Queen Morgase Trakand in Season 3 set up some major character arcs, including the reveal of the Sufferance character Leisurewho was operating under the guise of Lord Gaebril. In Season 4, we can expect Rahvin to be one of the main villains, taking the lead after Lanfear’s defeat. His storyline will probably unfold as Rand travels back to the Wetlands after spending time in the Aiel Wastewith the early episodes possibly wrapping up plotlines from the desert.

The Fires of Heaven also continues the fallout from the Breaking of the White Tower and the chaos in Tanchico. While some aspects, like Heavenly Sanche’s death, may be skipped or reworked for the show, a faction of rebel Aes Sedai is set to form in opposition to Elaidawhich will be a big storyline moving forward. Moghedienone of the surviving Forsaken, will likely continue to have a major role, especially since NYNAVE is still hunting her down. The mysterious Domination Bands from The Fires of Heaven could lead to a big storyline that sets up future events from Lord of Chaosthe next book in the series.

Season 4 will be a crucial time for the show to set the stage for upcoming, high-stakes conflicts, especially as new villains like Rahvin emerge and the Aes Sedai face even more challenges.

The Wheel of Time season 4 might include a major lord of chaos storyline

While much of the plot from Lord of Chaos (the sixth book) will likely be saved for Season 5we can expect some key elements from the novel to bleed into Season 4, particularly the Red Ajah’s pursuit of Rand. At the end of Season 3the show set the stage for this by depicting Elaida’s control over the White Tower. Elaida, though not a Darkfriend, is convinced that the Dragon Reborn (Rand) must be gentle, stripped of his ability to channel the One Power, for the good of the Light. She sees anyone who opposes her as working for the Dark One.

Now that Elaida has more power at her disposal, her obsession with removing Rand will grow stronger. In a significant departure from the books, the show made it so that only eight Aes Sedai (instead of thirteen) are needed to gentle a man, which could lead to a much faster, more dangerous situation for Rand. This change adds more urgency to his need for caution, as anytime he finds himself surrounded by eight or more female channelershe’s in serious danger.

As Season 4 unfolds, the drama around the Aes Sedai’s politics and their pursuit of Rand will likely play a large part in shaping his journey. With Elaida’s growing power, Rand must be ever more careful, especially as he continues to grow into his role as the Dragon Reborn.

Perrin’s path forward: A twist and the children of the light

While Perrin wasn’t featured in Season 3’s finale of The Wheel of Timehis storyline was a major focus in the penultimate episode. In a surprising twist that differs from the books, Perrin surrenders himself to the Children of the Light. In The Shadow Rising (book 4), the White Cloaks break their agreement to help fight the Trollocs, and Perrin refuses to go with them to face justice. The confrontation with Dain Bornhald is delayed in the book series, but the show took a bold step by having Perrin make this decision early.

This twist in Perrin’s arc sets up a crucial part of Season 4where his surrender to the White Cloaks will likely bring his storyline to a head, possibly even jumping ahead to Towers of Midnight (book 13). This means Perrin’s plotline in Season 4 could deal with his time under the Children of the Light, setting up a showdown that will test his loyalty, identity, and future.

While Perrin still has unfinished business back in the Two Riversespecially as he’s been unofficially declared its lord, his current path leads him to follow Dain Bornhald and the White Cloaks. In the coming season, Perrin will likely face judgment by “the Light,” which could have major consequences for his journey and the direction of his character.
