Draymond Green, a seasoned player for the Golden State Warriors, believes his altercation with Jusuf Nurkic during the 2023-24 season led to his exclusion from Team USA's roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Green had previously secured gold medals in 2016 and 2021. However, Stephen Curry's outstanding performance helped the USA clinch victory over France in the final. Green has been a key figure for the Warriors throughout his career, playing in 901 regular-season games and winning four NBA championships since joining in 2012. His career averages stand at 8.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. Known for his competitive spirit, Green has been involved in several on-court incidents, including an altercation with former teammate Jordan Poole during practice. In a game against the Utah Jazz, Green punched Nurkic, now with the Jazz, which he believes impacted his Olympic chances.
Although no official reason was given for his exclusion from the Olympic team, Green speculates that this incident played a significant role.
On his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, he shared his thoughts: "I'm not someone who lives with regrets-that's not really how I roll," said the 35-year-old.
"So I don't know if that's the right word-but I think one moment I really look back on is the one with Jusuf Nurkic because I actually think that moment cost me an opportunity to win a third gold medal. I look back at that one and I'm like, man, that sucks." The Warriors forward continues to reflect on how this incident might have influenced his Olympic journey. Despite this setback, Green remains focused on contributing to his team's success in future seasons.
