Damien Martyn Wakes Up From Coma: The condition of former Australian player and 2003 world-winning team member Damien Martin is improving rapidly. Damien Martin has now come out of coma and has started talking, responding positively to the treatment. Martin went into a coma after battling meningitis. Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist gave an update about his health.
Gilchrist said Martin was admitted to a hospital on the Gold Coast after being diagnosed with meningitis. Speaking to cricket.com.au, he said, “There has been an incredible transformation in the last 48 hours. The treatment is showing results and he is now able to talk. It is nothing less than a miracle.”
He further said that Damian Martin will remain in the hospital for the time being and his treatment is ongoing, but the improvement in his condition is very encouraging. According to Gilchrist, since coming out of coma, there has been such a change in his health that even for the family it is like a miraculous return.
Gilchrist said that the situation is now so positive that the family is hopeful that he can soon be shifted from the ICU to another part of the hospital. He said that his morale is high and the support he is receiving from all over the world has made him emotional. There is still some monitoring and treatment left, but the situation is continuously improving. Martin’s wife Amanda also thanked the well-wishers and said that the love, prayers and care received from people has played a big role in her husband’s recovery.
Darwin-born Damien Martyn made his Test debut against the West Indies in 1992–93. He played his last Test in the 2006–07 Ashes series, after which he switched to commentary. Martin played 67 Test matches for Australia and scored 208 ODI runs at an average of 40.8. He was a member of the 1999 and 2003 World Cup-winning Australian teams. Despite a finger fracture, he played a memorable inning of 88 not out against India in the 2003 World Cup final. Furthermore, he was also a part of the team that won the 2006 Champions Trophy.
