The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has empanelled 'RANext Technologies' as a Digital Connectivity Rating Agency (DCRA). According to a press release issued on Wednesday, this agency will now evaluate the digital connectivity infrastructure of buildings and properties.

What will the agency do?
RANext's primary function will be to provide ratings based on user perspective and real-world experiences. This will involve assessing the following key areas:

Fiber infrastructure standards
In-building connectivity (network performance within the building)
Broadband and Wi-Fi performance within the premises
The building's readiness for future smart technologies

Why is this needed?
The press release states that India is rapidly becoming a 'digital-first economy'. Seamless connectivity is now crucial for work, education, banking, healthcare, and entertainment. Nearly a billion people in the country use the internet. Smart homes and smart offices are becoming commonplace. In this context, a building's value is increasingly determined by its digital performance. However, the problem is that most properties today are not designed or evaluated for digital performance.

Benefits of the star-rating system

The DCRA framework will address this gap through a standardized star-rating system. This will establish a transparent and unbiased benchmark for developers, property managers, service providers, and homebuyers. It will incentivize developers to build robust digital infrastructure from the design stage. Buyers, tenants, and companies will be able to make better-informed decisions knowing how digitally capable a building is.

Company Statement
Ankit Goyal, Chairman and Founder of Space World Group, the parent company of RANext, said, "This is a significant step for RANext. It establishes us not only as a connectivity enabler but also as a trusted authority in evaluating digital infrastructure."
